FEB has recently published its 2013 year report. The student council has made a number of recommendations about the year plan. From how more study places could be created during exam periods to the importance of freedom in pursuing extracurricular activities. You can read our advice here
Currently we are looking for a new Secretary to support our council. The main task of the Secretary is to manage the administrative duties (making minutes, arranging rooms and archive important files). In this position, you, as a student of our faculty are working with an enthusiastic group of young and motivated students who are coming up for your rights as a student.
We are looking for a disciplined, organized and social person that has an interest in education at the faculty. It is important that you are flexible and that you are good in writing and speaking English. Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus.
The job is for eight hours a week and you get paid by the faculty according to the wage scale of a student assistant. In those eight hours you make minutes, archive documents, arrange rooms and maintain contact with the support staff of the faculty board. You are the eyes of the council. So, whenever it’s needed you can use your hours to help the council with arranging a transfer weekend and the constitution drink.
You should have some free time next to your studies and especially be highly motivated to help us improving the study experience at the UvA! It is important that you are committed to the council and open to have social activities with them.
Do you recognize yourself in this profile? Then you are the one we are looking for! You can ask us questions about the position at any time. Apply before the 31th of July by sending a short motivation letter and resume (CV) to firstname.lastname@example.org
We are looking forward to your application!

As you, the students, know best who those teachers are and what skills exactly they are missing do not hesitate to inform us about it by emailing: email@example.com !Lees dit artikel
Good luck with your exams everyone! If there are any problems with your exams let us know and we’ll get on it. Also, fill in the course evaluation survey! The faculty does look at them and use them to improve courses.

The FSR is currently working with the Faculty Board for improving communication at the FEB. To do this, we need to know what the problems are. We need your help! Tell us what issues with communication you see or experience at the faculty; Which information is way too hard to find? Or comes in too late? How do you prefer receiving information from the FEB?
Write a comment, send us a message or email at firstname.lastname@example.org !
We were very happy to receive suggestions on what could be improved at the FEB. As promised one of the suggestions would win a dinner for two.
The present goes to Daphne Sweers, who brought our attention to the matter that students who go on exchange to Erasmus do not have information meetings after selection.
The FSR, as promised, now will focus its attention to solve this issue.
After you filled in your evaluation form an evaluation report will be written. The course coordinator will give his feedback on it and place this and the report onBlackboard for you to read it. This will be done in approximately 6 weeks.
From period 5 onwards for a number of courses the coordinator’s feedback will be posted earlier, without the written report which will follow later.
A brief description of the FEB evaluation process will be posted on the student’s A-Z list concerning a summary of the Quality Assurance Handbook on advice of the FSR.
So do fill in the evaluation forms at the end of your exam & make a difference!
In the week of 12-16 May you have the right to vote for your faculty student council at the FEB. Come and find out who you think would be suitable for a place in the Student Council of your faculty! This FREE drink will take place at CREA on Tuesday the 6th of May at 16:00.
See you there!

Look around FEB, Easter is around the corner, and so are chocolate eggs. Look for chocolate eggs hidden around the faculty and send the student council suggestions of what you would like to see different at FEB to email@example.com
On 28th of April the best suggestions will be awarded a dinner of choice for two!
Lately, communication has not been FEB’s strongest side, and this was seen with the Rec – E/ H renovation and the extremely late action taken to notify students about the expected changes. We believe that communication should be a priority for a faculty with two different schools, a great number of departments, hundreds of employees and thousands of students.
In relation to this issue, we sent a critical advice to the Board, discussing the negative effects that the lack of conversation at the FEB has on the faculty and especially on students. We expressed our concern and disappointment about the lack of improvement of this issue, but also provided suggestions of how the situation can finally be changed.
Currently we are expecting the Board’s response and hoping for a quick progress on the issue. For now you can find the advice here:http://www.studentenraad.nl/feb/documents/advices-2/
The Audio Visual Study Facilities (AVSF) have been a matter of concern for many years now. Over the past years, many promises have been made by the Faculty, but this aspect has never been implemented. After long discussions and compromises, it has become clear to the FSR members that the only appropriate action would be publicly complaining on this issue and expressing our (and our fellow students’) disappointment. This is the reason why, on the 10th of March, an official letter of complaint was sent to the Dean. You can access it on our website:http://www.studentenraad.nl/feb/documenten/other-letters/
This subject has been a discussion point in the meeting between the board and the FSR of today.
Keep close contact with the FSR and with our page for further actions regarding AVSF.
Lately, the faculty is putting effort not only in improving its campus, but its curriculum as well. A few months ago the first Curriculum Committee was formed, with the aim of revising the current BSc Economics and Business program.
It consisted of experts from the Business School and School of Economics, as well as members of the FSR. After a number of meetings and discussions, a report was sent to the Dean with a number of recommendations, which he and the education directors will work on.
Subjects discussed include: use of audio visual facilities, number and type of teaching hours, number of students in tutorials, course content, exchanges & internships etc.
Short and long–term action plans are currently being prepared and progress is expected shortly. We will keep you updated on the topic.
On advice of the FSR FEB, the board of the Faculty of Economics and Business has changed the following in the Quality Assurance handbook: Course coordinators will be asked to react on the evaluation reports of their subject. The report and coordinator’s reaction will be posted on Blackboard so that all students can have a look at it. Check Teaching Announcements – Onderwijsmededelingen Faculty of Economics and Business on Blackboard for updates!
Handboek Kwaliteitszorg Onderwijs (KHB) states what the responsibilities are concerning education at the FEB. In terms of education content and sustaining the quality of education: the processes that maintain education quality and how these processes lead to permanent quality control and possible changes of education.Lees dit artikel

due to the rebuilding of Rec-E the Education Service Centre will temporarily move to J/K.
The move is planned in the week of 17 until 21 February 2014. As a result the Education Service Centre will be closed on wednesday 19 February and thursday 20 February. This means that the student desk, student administration and the study advisors will not be available for those two days. From friday the 21th of February the Education Service Centre will open at their new location in J/K. Also in the second semester, there will be no classes in Rec-E. They are still rescheduling all classes, so up until the day before the semester starts the location of your lectures/tutorials can be changed. Please check your timetable for the actual location of your classes.

For more general information on the student councils you can visitwww.studentenraad.nl or contact us for questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
even though the faculty student council is only halfway through, the search for the fsr 2014 – 2015 has already begun. As you already might know, the two parties that compete for the places in the fsr at the FEB are List Sefa and Partij Mei. List Sefa and Partij Mei have already started their recruitment for their parties. The deadline for List Sefa is 19 januari 2014 you can apply via their website: www.sefa.nl. Partij Mei doesn’t have a clear deadline yet, you can contact their board for more information about that. However you can already become a member via their website: www.kiesmei.nl.
If none of the parties appeal to you, you could decide to begin your own party. For more information about starting your own party, you can contact us!
The fsr is interesting for people that want to be more involved in the faculty, it is a great way to gain contacts and put subjects that yóu find important on the agenda of the board of the faculty and since you actually have rights as council, you can realize your ideas. Also it is a great enrichment for your resume. The time you spent on the FSR depends on your position in the council, officially it varies between 8 and 16 hours per week.

A lot of changes have occurred in the past couple of weeks, especially and most importantly with respect to the Roeterseiland renovation. As most of you might have noticed or experienced, REC H and REC E – the home of economics and business students and a cradle for many others who study, eat and socialize here – are shutting down. Renovation work will continue through the end of the summer of 2014 and it has started completely with H and partly with E (the towers), the E-hall will be the last one to be modified.
About theories of strategy, we are still working on it. We talked with all the parties and want to meet with the board of examiners. We did hear that a student already filled a complaint and that the board of examiners is working on it. Would that student please contact us so we know what is going on and what we can do to help?
The past weeks the FSR has had many discussions with the board about the resits and sadly we couldn’t agree on this issue. As a last resort, we contacted the board of examiners. They found that they couldn’t change the date of the resits anymore because otherwise other students that assumed that the resits are going to be on a certain day could have troubles with it. And they have to take those students in account as well.
The board of examiners did ask us to analyse the problem with the resits and present it to them, so they can do something with it for the resits in the summer and the future.
For the students that have emailed us with that they were ill or had an accident prior to their exam, and that is why they didn’t pass: if you can prove this to the board of examiners there is a possibility that you can have an extra resit in the summer. You can find more about this on: http://student.uva.nl/eco/az/item/board-of-examiners.html (english) / http://student.uva.nl/ecb/az/item/examencommissie.html (dutch)
The Board however did agree that resits and lectures shouldn’t be at the same time. We only had one example of that (the resit of maths 3 being at the same time as the lectures of maths 4) and they would pass that case on to the schedulers. So if there are more cases were resits and lectures are at the same time, let us know.
Please understand that we have tried everything possible to solve this issue, but for the upcoming resits in January it just didn’t work out. We hope that with the help of the board of examiners we can solve this problem in the future.
Yesterday, the Fsr Feb moved to our new location. Because of the renovation you can now find us at REC E 3.23. Don’t hesitate to drop by or otherwise email us. Our email is (still): firstname.lastname@example.orgLees dit artikel
The past weeks we had a lot of complaints about the business master, the resits, the course EMO and teachers not following the OER and we promised to keep you updated, after the OV. It has had some delay and we’re sorry about that but it’s finally here.
In our next overlegvergadering (OV) with the board were going to discuss some complaints we got from you and things we want to see changed. We would like some input from you on the following topics:
- The business master (It is too overcrowded, differences in difficulty in courses and tracks)
- Teachers not following the Onderwijs en Examenregelement (teachers not providing mock exams or grading the exams and publishing them in 15 working days)
- The relative grading scheme of the course: Economics of markets and organizations (EMO) (by relative grading you setting a fixed amount that should fail)
- The amount of resits and exams that are planned on the same day
From you we would like to know if you agree or disagree with these points and if there are things that we should not forget to mention during the OV about these 4 complaints. You can contact us by our email: email@example.com
If there are any other complaints or remarks, feel free to contact us!Lees dit artikel
The FSR has been flooded by complaints about the master course strategy and the issue of having 2 resits on one day.
We want to let you know that we are working hard to resolve these problems.
For the course strategy the main problems were:
- you couldn’t obtain a 9 or a 10
- only the people with a 5 got a higher grade up to a 6 to have a passing rate of 51%
These things will be discussed with the teaching director and the program director. If you have new points that we should raise to them please email the fsr: firstname.lastname@example.org
Updates on these matters will be posted on our facebook and website.
If you have another complaint please contact us! Of course the FSR is more than happy to help you with this.
After the success of last year, the FSR is continuing with a new concept of course evaluations. In a brief session (max. 1 hour) you as a student will get the chance to evaluate your course and have a direct dialogue with the coördinator of that course about what went good and what should be improved for the coming weeks. So your suggestions will benefit you as well! We are going to start in this block with the courses:
- Finance 2 on tuesday 26 november 13:00 – 14:00
- Intermediate financial accounting 1 on friday 29 november 14:00 – 15:00
You will get a financial compensation at the end. If you want to join the meeting send an email to: email@example.com
From 4 till 8 november you have the chance to elect your favorite/best teacher. The Central Student Counsel and ASVA do this every year to stimulate good teaching because the quality of our education stands and falls with the quality of our teacher. So please take the time to nominate your best teacher at: www.uva.nl/docentvanhetjaarLees dit artikel
